Viral pharyngitis is an inflammation of the pharynx (the throat between the tonsils and larynx) caused by a virus. In addition to viruses, bacteria also can cause inflammation. However, the most common cause of inflammation is a virus. When the throat is not found the bacteria that cause symptoms, most likely due to viral pharyngitis. Pharyngitis may occur as part of a viral infection that also involves other organ systems, such as the lungs or intestines
Symptoms = Discomfort swallowing, Fever, Swollen lymph nodes in the neck, Joint pain or muscle pain
Treatment = There is no specific treatment for viral pharyngitis. Treatment can be done alone, among others, gargling with warm salt water (one half teaspoon of salt in a glass of warm water) several times a day, and taking anti-inflammatory drugs or drugs such as acetaminophen, which control the fever. But taking anti-inflammatory lozenges or sprays can excessively severe sore throat.
It is important to avoid using antibiotics when a sore throat caused by viral infections, because antibiotics will not help, and use it in a way contributes to bacteria becoming resistant to antibiotics. In some cases of sore throat (for example, in infectious mononucleosis), lymph nodes in the neck may become swollen, and anti-inflammatory such as prednisone is recommended for ease of breathing and swallowing.
